Where did you get the idea for a talking cat?
This is kind of an interesting story. I am a big fan of Barbra Michaels. I love her imagery, her sense of the story, just everything. In almost every one of her books, there is a cat who has a lot of personality, but doesn't speak. She primarily writes haunting fiction as well, and it occurred to me that cats are said to see things that human can't. To make the story work, I had to write it from Bubbles point of view. It was only later that I learned of the Sneaky Pie Brown series, and I devoured every one I could find.
What was the inspiration for the character of Bubbles?
When I began writing this book, I owned a gorgeous, and HUGE, gray tabby named Prometheus. He was literally the best cat I ever owned. Never scratched my kids, sweet, and a personality that could make you laugh. Unfortunately, he went outside one day and never came back. I hope wherever he is, he is happy and cared for.
How long did it take you to actually write the book?
This is a little harder to answer. I tried to write a little everyday, but obviously work and family constraints limited how much I could and when. At one point, I hit the proverbial wall, and like Mark Twain, I put down the manuscript and walked away for about a year. When I came back, I knocked out the last chapters in a short amount of time. The last two years have been spent editing and attempting to market my work.
When will the Next book in the series be written and what will it be about?
I am currently working on a Thriller. This is due out in December. Once that book is completed and off the the printer's press, I will began work on the new Bubbles Mystery. I have decided to bring Bubbles, Nigel and Mrs. Winkle back to New Mexico to hunt down La Llorona. This is a local ghost story that is indigenous to the Hispanic people, and one that I have heard since I was a child. There is no working title as of yet, but when there is one, I will Blog it.
Are you working full time now or are you able to devote your time completely to writing?
I work from home and I set my own hours. As a mother to three, I can never completely devote all my time to my writing, however, this is my second book that is near completion, and I have gotten better at the work at hand. You will not have to wait too long for the next book in the series, or for One Stone, the project under construction at the moment.
I thank everyone again for your interest. I am so pleased that you find Bubbles as enjoyable as I do.
