I just can't resist starting my blog like that. I have been receiving quite a few e-mails, and I am truly grateful for all the questions. I have decided to answer them all at once in a blog, just so everyone who wants to know, will know, ya know?
I have been asked how I write. Some people may think this is a silly question. It is not, believe me. Now, some author's prefer to map out their work. Decide to introduce which characters in which chapter and what they will accomplish by page 200. I can't work like that. I don't know if my brain rejects the implied organization or what, but I am unable to write like that. I let the story tell itself. The chapter ends on the best line. Simple as that. I adhere to Michaelangelo who once said that the Statue of David was already within the marble, he just helped it along by chipping away the extra pieces.
I have also been asked how do I find time to write with three children. My answer is, early morning. I don't know if it is the half asleep stage that helps it along, or the wonderful coffee, it just works. If I hit a really good creative streak, I may go all day on it. I often carry a pad of paper around to jot down ideas or good lines for the characters. Helpful in the grocery store check out line.
What is my inspiration? Well, for the Bubble's series, it would be this cat I used to own. He was amazing, but when he would look at me, I could almost hear him saying, "You poor, simple-minded human." Bubbles is the literary manifestation of that cat. I take my inspiration from life. Truth is stranger than fiction, so I look to the world to provide me with plotlines. Whatever works.
I thank you all, and I must say, it is humbling to be asked these questions. You know, a year ago, I never would have thought that I would be sitting here, in my PJs, answering questions about my book, and now here I am. This is a dream come true for me. I can only hope that in the future, I can help fellow aspiring author's to do the same thing.
